We watched in horror as the black spider-thing crawled its way out of the frothing sea. Thick, finger-like legs arranged in a circle around a central mass that held no head or body, just a joint of knuckles and in the centre of that, a puckering orifice that bubbled up greyish discharge from its innards. It was as I whimpered that the eyeless thing froze, then we saw it could gallop.
