We found it out in the fields. A searing blade of light that tore apart the night. Then silence. It was hurt, we could see, but despite our fear we took it in. Looked after it as best we could. Fed it meat. Tended it's wounds.
And gradually it got better. Seemed happier. We had in in the barn at first. It was so beautiful to behold. No one had ever seen anything like it. We didn't want anyone to see it other than us. We were scared of what they might do to it.
But it wanted to fly away, when it was better.
We couldn't let that happen. Someone might have taken it. And it was so beautiful.
So it lives in the basement now. We feed it well, down in the dark. We put rugs over the trap doors to muffle it's howls in the night. We aren't afraid it's going to fly away any more.
We clipped it's wings.
