The Shark follows us, always, adrift on the masterless sea. Sometimes friend, sometimes foe, but one slip and we are His. The Shark takes many forms: an otter, a panther, a monkey, always swimming at the same speed, keeping pace with the raft, always the same dark blue on top, bone white below. He smiles. He advises us how best to keep ourselves going. Tells us how to mend the raft, how to tend wounds, and He even shows us where to find shoals of fish and colonies of seaweed, to keep ourselves fed. And yet the rule persits; slip into the water, and you are His.
