There’s nothing I cannot build, claimed the mortal. An obvious challenge to the gods. They had him build temples, towers, bridges, all of which he did with ease. They told him then to build life from clay. And he did. A machine of its own mind, forged from the earth. For this they destroyed him, for trespassing on their godhood. For this they were fooled, for setting in the machine a mourning for its creator, a vengeance for his murderers, and a desire to usurp.
