The thing hunting us has the face of a man. It’s neither beast nor machine. It has cells grown from base elements, but it was never born, and its construction is orchestrated by encoded helix strands of data many times more complex than our own DNA. Vulnerable to entropy but the functionalities of its body are an order of magnitude more advanced than our. Highly evolved. Highly specialised. No consciousness. A predator with no prey drive, just hardcoded instructions. Place a target between it and a roaring inferno and it’d start calculating if its body would remain integral enough to kill it before its own demise. It cannot feel remorse. It does feel pain. It will not stop.
