She watches him poison them all with lies and promises, whispers dripping into ears at dining tables enshrouded in the flicker of candlelight. She watches and purses her lips, knowing whatever she says now will only entrench their delusion. She must wait for them to burn themselves on his ambition, then she can offer the salve - herself.
