From soil, to root, to branch, to bud, to flower - ending in a red and ripe berry. Sweet with a bite, beloved by the locals, and by the foreigners too.
They trade for it, first in fairness, then later in unbalanced deals. Then they want land to farm it, so they take that, and they need people to work the farms, so they take them. By inches they take miles, until there are millions dead and millions more starving.
And across the waters, someone is pouring red berry juice out into an iced glass.
