The 1st Junior Cavalry. The Gallant Brigade. The Boys. Names of their countrymen by their countrymen. Consisting of the young men of means whose fathers occupy the upper echelons of the military.
Finely dressed in a loose uniform whose sole consistency is the green sash across their shoulder. Their bright colourations are of their own design and are intended to display their keen sense of fashion and vast wealth. All silk, no wool. Furs and gold trims. Every colour of the rainbow.
Lightly armoured and seated on the finest thoroughbreds, the 1st are fast flankers in a traditional formation. But their more common use employs the long billhooks the young men carry into battle.
Typically the 1st aren't deployed until the enemy is routed. Then their speed comes into use. Hounding a fleeing enemy. Running down surrendered infantry. Seeking out officers with no protection.
Wouldn't do to have the future elites face the enemy head on. Better to let them revel in a little bloodshed, sans the danger.
Outside their country they are known by a host of other names, none so gallant.
