The stars blur across the night sky in bright arcs as the heavens rotate in a constant swirl. It's like that here. Time is moving faster than it is on Earth. That's why people came here.
I sit in the kitchen, at the breakfast bar. Gillian sits on the other end, typing away at her device. Marco stands at the cooker, halfway through making breakfast for everyone. Most people are still asleep at this point in the cycle. Our dawns and dusks only last a few minutes. The sun rises and falls like a paper plane sailing over a hill. So we keep a sleep cycle independent of the planet's natural time.
Everyone here has their own reasons. But we all broadly want the same thing. To see the future. The far future.
Granax spins in the sky, always opposite the sun. An great orb many times darker than the night around it. It's incredible mass is what warps time this way.
I just wanted to get away. I didn't know many people anymore. I didn't like the way the world was changing. Perhaps that makes me a coward, for not wanting to be part of the change. But how impactful can a single person be amongst billions?
Either way, this is what I wanted. One day, I will step out into a universe I don't recognise. And I hope I like it.
