That human life flickers soundlessly in the depths, like a candle behind a glass pane. At once they came. They drenched our cities in searing light. It galvanised all it touched with a layer of liquid metal. Dried, it reflected all that touched it, like a mirror. From a distance, our homes were blinding to witness, as they shone our own sun back at us like a weapon. All life that resided within was extinguished, frozen eternally in chrome. As soon as they came, they were gone. We do not know if our home was a testing ground or our people playthings. We know that we were flickering flames and they were a gale.
