One season folds into the other and between, faces strike out of the backdrop into the spotlight. Familiar, tired expressions of people unable to move anywhere and the unfamiliar, tiresome heirs to good fortune who roll through the same old motions with little to bar their inevitable progress. Consequence doesn’t touch some people. For others, it is unwavering.
The gates lie open. All possible futures snake out from here, their avenues dark and twisting, their ends gilded and distant. The idea of ploughing ahead through the solidly founded bricks and mortar of these institutions grows increasingly appealing, as does the catharsis of the chaos that would reign it its wake. But such joys are momentary. Fantasies are best left in their home territory of the mind. Consequence doesn’t touch some people, but it does touch you.
