The flight out is always daunting. It’s not the cold void of space or the lightyears of travel or even the dangerous nature of the work. It’s knowing I have to go through it all again. Miss my husband, the kids, my parents, and, my friends. Miss good coffee and home cooked meals.
Building these bridges across time and space connects people. It’s hard work but good work. It makes a difference. But it leaves the constructors isolated, spending more time with their coworkers than with the people back home. And I’m not sure anyone gives a thought to that, when they use the bridges, because they’re so used to having the galaxy at their feet.
