These big wide spaces cannot illuminate the darker places. By contrast, a touch of lightness makes all the darkness darker, just as a hint of dark makes the bright, brighter. It is in the shadow of things that we see the story. The outline and the void often tell us more than the subject ever could. But it is not always the purpose of these mediums to materialise truth before us, or even to sway us one way or the other, just as it is not always their intent to nudge our feelings here or there. Sometimes, things are made just to exist and that’s alright.
